LOIS L. CALLAHAN SCHOLARSHIP

Lois L. Callahan (1918-2014) was a long-time teacher in the Kaneland School District. A scholarship bearing her name was established by her to support a graduating senior from any DeKalb County High School or Kaneland High School District 302 who declares a major in (a) elementary education (b) nursing (c) pre-medicine or (d) pre-veterinarian programs.

The scholarship amount is determined in January of each year by the DeKalb County Community Foundation based upon income earned in the prior year. It has historically been between $1,000 and $1,500.

The General John Stark Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Sycamore, is the administrative organization named to select the scholarship recipient. Mrs. Callahan was an active member of the General John Stark Chapter NSDAR for over 40 years. She was also a devoted member of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau.

KSO High School Senior Musician Scholarship Criteria and Procedures

The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra will annually award a $1000 scholarship to select local high school students who have played in an instrumental music ensemble(s) during high school and will be a member of a music ensemble in college.

Eligibility requirements:

  • The student is a high school senior residing in DeKalb County, Illinois.

  • The student performed in an instrumental music ensemble (orchestra, band, or other) during high school.

  • The student intends to perform in an instrumental music ensemble in college this fall.

Application requirements:

  • The student must submit the online application (see below) form no later than Sunday, March 16, 2025. This includes attaching an essay and list of music and extra-curricular activities in the online application.

  • The student must arrange for TWO Letters of Recommendations from music teachers or ensemble directors who can speak to the applicant's musical abilities and commitments demonstrated in high school. These letters must be submitted online (see below) no later than Sunday, March 16, 2025. Only one letter may be submitted at a time. If you have two or more letters to submit, please submit one letter individually for each student. It is the student's responsibility to ensure letters of recommendation have been submitted by the deadline

2025 DCCF Scholarship Universal link now open- Due April 1st!

The DeKalb County Community Foundation Scholarship application is now open. If you are a Senior who is planning on attending college or a training program next year, I strongly encourage you to apply! One of the great things about this application is that it combines a number of local scholarship opportunities onto ONE SINGLE APPLICATION! 

The scholarships that are available through DCCF range from $300 to $62,000 and cover a broad range of programs, including trades, certification programs, and college programs. Fill out one application, and DCCF will automatically apply that application to every scholarship for which you are eligible.

2025 Genoa Chamber King & Queen Contest Scholarship App is now available!! Due April 2

The Genoa Area Chamber of Commerce 2025 Genoa Days King & Queen Scholarship Contest Application  is now available!! Please see info below:

Objective: It is the goal of the Genoa Area Chamber to promote two outstanding students of high moral standards and community commitment to reign over the Genoa Days Celebration, to serve as a role model for area youth and to enhance the image of Genoa to surrounding the communities. The candidates will be chosen based on the criteria below. This contest enables the candidates to compete for prize money the Chamber provides to be used for continuing education. 

Available to: The scholarship is open to all graduating Genoa-Kingston seniors as well as homeschooled and parochial school students who are residents of Genoa and Kingston and who would otherwise fall in the CUSD Unit #424 District boundaries. It is available to students’ continuing education at a community college, 4-year university, technical college or trade school. 

Candidate Determination: To be considered, candidates need to complete the following application and application insert and submit it on or before Wednesday, April 2nd to the High School Guidance Office. All completed applications will be reviewed and finalists will be notified. 

Prizes: On Wednesday, May 28th, 2025 the first evening of Genoa Days at 8:00 p.m. on the main stage, the King & Queen will be announced and each will be awarded a minimum of $1000. The finalists will all receive $100. Participation: The King & Queen are encouraged to attend the Genoa Days Festivities, wearing their crowns, and all members of the court will be required to ride on the Chamber float in the Genoa Days parade on Saturday, May 31st, 2025.

2025 DeKalb County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship Available Due April 4

DeKalb County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship applications are now available for graduating high school seniors. The $1,200 scholarships will be awarded to students of DeKalb County Farm Bureau members.

 New this year: The James M. Johnson Ag Scholarship. This scholarship is for a graduating High School senior within DeKalb County, who must also be a member of FFA or 4-H.

 Once the student has applied, counselor instructions will be automatically sent to you through Kaleidoscope. Please submit their academic information, transcript, and a counselor statement through Kaleidoscope.

The Genoa Kingston Athletic Booster Club (GKABC) will award two $1,000 scholarships to seniors graduating with the Class of 2025. One scholarship will be awarded to a boys’ sport participant, and one to a girls’ sport participant. Applicants will be selected based on leadership, character, sportsmanship and school spirit. achievements, may be considered.

Kyler Zachary Foundation Scholarship

On July 4th, 2019, KylerZachary Lee was stillborn at 30 weeks gestation. Our hearts were broken, but we wanted to make sure Kyler’s memory lived on. We decided to start the Kyler Zachary Foundation with an outpouring of support from the Genoa-Kingston Community following our story. Through this foundation, we have held fundraising events to raise money for charitable organizations close to our hearts and an annual scholarship for seniors at the Genoa-Kingston High School. The purpose of the Kyler Zachary Foundation is to raise awareness of infant loss and spread
kindness in our son, Kyler’s name.

2025 POPLAR GROVE AVIATION ASSOCIATION AWARD

The Poplar Grove Aviation Education Association (PGAEA) awards a series of scholarships aimed at helping youth pursue their careers in aviation. Thanks to the generosity of the Thomas Family  and donations to the Poplar Grove Vintage Wings and Wheels Museum, these scholarships are awarded each year.  Scholarships are awarded to young adults actively working towards a career in aviation, not just high school students.

2025 NORTHERN REHAB HEALTH AND WELLNESS SCHOLARSHIP

Northern Rehab sponsors an annual $500 Health & Wellness Scholarship awarded to one Genoa-Kingston High School and one Rochelle Township High School Senior that has participated in a sport or extracurricular activity in high school and will pursue a career in healthcare. Criteria, online application, and deadlines found below.

  • Must be a Genoa-Kingston or Rochelle Township high school senior.

  • Must have participated in one extracurricular activity, club, or organization (athletics, music, fine arts, academics, FFA, NHS, non-profits, etc.) during high school.
