Interim Superintendent Dr. Matt Cascio

2023-2024 School Year

Dr. Cascio has served as the GKHS Principal since the 2020-2021 school year. During his time at GK he has worked with staff to move the graduation rate to 95%, collaborated with staff to create a more positive working environment and increased the ninth grade on track [graduation] rate to a projected 97%. He has earned his Masters from NIU and an EdD at Aurora University. 

Dr. Cascio’s Statement: “Dr. Powell’s leadership has been an asset and I look forward to continuing the great work he has started. In October, I will transition into the Interim Superintendent position and begin collaborating with staff across the district and community. We will continue to work towards our Strategic Plan goals and uphold our mission statement.”

Superintendent Dr. Chad Wagner

During the Special Board Meeting on Thursday, November 30, 2023, the Board of Education approved the appointment of Dr. Chad Wagner as Superintendent of the Genoa-Kingston School District beginning July 1, 2024.

Dr. Wagner brings over 25 years of experience in education with 14 years as a superintendent, 10 of which as the superintendent of Elmwood CUSD #322. Prior to being a superintendent he taught third, fifth, and sixth grade, and was an elementary and junior high principal. He received his undergraduate degree at the University of Northern Iowa, and a master’s degree at Northwest Missouri State. He earned his superintendent certification at Illinois State University, and a doctorate at Aurora University.

“The reputation of Genoa-Kingston is one of academic excellence, strong community, and dedicated educators,” said Dr. Wagner. “I look forward to getting to know the incredible staff and working with them to achieve our mission of preparing students to excel and contribute to their community.”

The Genoa-Kingston School District and board of education looks forward to welcoming Dr. Wagner this coming summer. More information about the transition and next steps will be communicated with the community as details come together.
