We are pleased to announce Alyssa Edwards (‘14 grad) has joined the district as the Director of Communications & Community Outreach.

Communication channels have evolved quickly. At the district we want to provide our stakeholders with the most up to date information happening through different forms of communication. However, due to the magnitude of communication channels and information we have to share, we found that we were not quite meeting our standard of excellence. In this new role, Edwards will be tasked with handling internal and external communications, strengthening community relationships and executing a communications and marketing plan.

“I am so grateful and honored to be back at GK [Genoa-Kingston] and serving the community that helped raise me,” said Edwards, “It is awesome to see how much our community has grown over the years and I am excited to be a part of it!”

After graduating from Genoa-Kingston, Edwards earned a BA in Journalism/Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and a BA in Music from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA. She has previous work experience in school communication and in the nonprofit sector.

In her free time you will catch Edwards participating in different outdoor sports/activities, playing the clarinet for the DeKalb Municipal Band and spending time with family and friends.

“The GK Board and Administrative team are very excited to be adding Alyssa Edwards to the district to facilitate improved and expanded communication and community interaction,” said Brent O’Daniell, Superintendent at District #424.

“Alyssa impressed us with her interpersonal skills, her attention to detail, along with her drive and her passion,” said O’Daniell. “The fact that she is a GK Alum only strengthened the group's commitment to her in this role. Genoa Kingston is a tight knit community, and this service [Communications Department] will only add to that.”

Most recently, Edwards, was the Director of Communications & Education Outreach for the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry. She oversaw the nonprofits social media, was the point person for external communications and implemented different marketing campaigns.

“Alyssa was a great student here at GKHS and was very active in athletics and activities as well,” said Phil Jerbi, Athletic Director at District #424. “She has made a name for herself in social media and marketing since then, and we are thrilled to have her return to GK as an integral part of our staff!”

Alyssa would love to learn more and hear from our community and its members, to provide the best services possible from the district. Feel free to reach out to info@gkschools.org with any questions, comments or concerns.
