Dear GK families,

Quarter 2 has begun! Remote learning can bring new challenges for students and it may be difficult for some to become and/or remain engaged in their class lessons. Also, students may not understand just exactly what behaviors constitute being engaged. We have included our list of expectations for engagement in the classroom, as well as engagement in the remote learning setting.  Students will be rewarded with HERO points for demonstrating the following “engaged” behaviors as well as following the  Creed of the Cogs.  Click here to view the Creed of the Cogs.  The points earned can be redeemed for a variety of items. More information regarding remote point redemption will follow.

In-person engagement:

  • Be on time (through the door) and meet deadlines
  • Look and listen to your teacher and other speakers
  • Follow directions the first time
  • Be prepared with required materials
  • Check communication tools daily-Google Classroom, Remind, Powerschool
  • Make meaningful contributions to activities

Virtual/remote engagement:

  • Logging into the Zoom or Google Meet class on time and for the entire period
  • Meeting deadlines
  • Having camera and microphone on/off at appropriate times
  • Actively participate in activities and breakouts
  • Removing distractions and focusing on class content
  • Follow directions the first time
  • Be prepared with required materials
  • Check communication tools daily-Google Classroom, Remind, Powerschool

Please encourage your student to be engaged in their classes to earn HERO points.  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the Ben Owen at bowen@gkschools.org and he will pass the communication onto the PBIS committee.
