Some Reminders regarding Student Attendance
School Hours: (8:00 - 2:50).
All students must be in the classroom by the start of the school day.
Late students must report to the office to sign in.
Excessive unexcused tardies may result in additional consequences.
Students leaving during the school day must be signed out in the main office.
Reporting Absences: Parents/Guardians must call the school before 9:30a.m , please call 815-784-5246. Absence must be reported to the office, not just the teacher.
Leave a detailed reason for the absence.
Note may be sent explaining absence upon return.
Types of Absences:
Excused examples:
Illness (including mental or behavioral health of student)
Observance of Religious Holiday
Death of immediate family member
Situations beyond the control of the student
Circumstances that cause reasonable concern to the parent/guardian for the student’s mental, emotional, or physical health or safety
Parental military responsibility up to maximum of five (5) days or School Board discretion there after
Family vacation up to a maximum of five (5) days
Other reasons with prior approval from school principal
Unexcused examples:
Missed bus
Overslept
Appointments not due to medical conditions
School calendar confusion
Attendance Policies:
Allowed nine (9) total absences per calendar year
Communication via a letter will occur upon the fifth (5) and then ninth (9) absences
Includes both excused and unexcused
After nine (9) total absences a doctor’s note will be required
After five (5) unexcused absences: Letter sent home and Referral to DeKalb ROE Student and Family Success Division
