First Grade Newsletter
Week of August 15, 2022
Welcome to First Grade!
We are so glad that you are here!
Important Information
-Our school hours are 8:00-2:50 each day.
-Please send your child to school with a spill proof water bottle and two healthy snacks each day.
-Free Breakfast and lunch are not provided for every student this year.
-Students can bring lunch from home or they can purchase lunch from school. Please make sure if your student is having school lunch that you send lunch money (most families do this weekly or monthly), login to add money to their Mealtime account, or fill out the free/reduced lunch form.
-A zip-up or light weight jacket is also a great thing to have your child keep in their locker, this will help ensure your child is ready for the changing weather as we will utilize our outside space as much as possible. Our classroom also has varying temperatures throughout the day.
-We will use Google Classroom as a learning platform when needed and Seesaw as our sole parent communication. Please continue to check Seesaw throughout the week for messages. Note that see saw had some updates and may look a little different this year.
-If your child is sick or there is a change of transportation, you must call the office to notify them. Please follow this important protocol.
-If you have not done so please return the information sheet that was included in your mailed welcome letter.
-Starting next week your student will have homework attached to this newsletter. When homework is attached it is their homework for the week and it is due the first day of school the following week. This is so families can complete the work when it is convenient for their schedule. First grade homework is always practice of previously taught skills. We have found it is best for students to complete this over a series of days and not all at one time.
Our learning focus this week
Literacy
This week we will be reading books about school, being a kind friend, crayons, and what it means to follow the rules. We will discuss many of these topics in our morning meeting and closing meeting each day.

We will read and write words with m,s,t,a. Our fry words are: the, of, and, to
Math
We will begin our first grade readiness topic. This is a review of skills previously taught in kindergarten.
