Mining diamonds in Canada began as early as the 1960s, but major discoveries began in 1980s. The first economic diamond was discovered in Lac De Gras, in the Northwest Territories. Ekati diamond opened 300 km northeast of Yellowknife. By April 1999 the mine has produced one million carats. Many people love mining diamonds because of mostly money, but also because it makes beautiful jewelry. People weren’t just using diamonds for jewelry, but they used them for old record players. People would use them as the tip that spun around the disk. They also use it to cut things. Diamonds are the hardest mineral which causes them to be useful for other things then just to wear. Diamonds can be used for surgery tools, computer chips, and much, much more. |
