Mining in Wales

Wales, in the United Kingdom, was famous for its mining in 1913. The capital, of Wales, Cardiff was the largest coal exporting port in the world. At that time, mining is

believed to go back to the 14th

century, or as early as the Romans in

some locations. Some mines located

in Wales are the oldest mines found

in the whole world The Great Orme

Copper Mine located in northwest

Wales, believes that people over 4000

years ago mined it. Before the railroad was invented, they would have to transport coal and iron by roads and canals. Today the people of Wales mine gold, coal, copper, slate, iron ore, and limestone.  Many mines have been declared World Heritage Sites, and are opened to the public.
