The saxophone was invented in 1841 by Adolph Sax. The saxophone was invented in Paris France. The first saxophone was displayed in 1841 for the first time. In 1845 the saxophone became known as the "integral" part of all bands. Many of the composers wrote music for the saxophone, but not until about 75 years later did the saxophone begin to be played in the public.
In the beginning the saxophone was to be a mellow playing instrument but that had to be changed when the saxophone had to compete with drums, shuffling feet, and conversations of early dancers dancing to the music. In order to do this, the mouth piece was made smaller and more narrow which gave it a more annoying loud kind of sound.
Even though the saxophone is used in many bands this instrument is mainly a jazz instrument. The way the saxophone was made was by perfecting the bass clarinet. Today the saxophone is a big part of the band and gives it that jazzy kind of feel.
