Peoria County was named after the native Americans and French traders who called the Illinois River, Pimiteoui, which means "Fat Lake." They now call it Peoria and carry on the tradition.  Peoria County is located on the Illinois River

(ice skating, ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and sledding) and also events go on sometimes to. Also there is Castle Rock State park. There is Hiking trails to visit, fishing and boating, camping and hunting and horseback riding. The Park is surrounded by canyons, streams, prairies and forest.
