Knox County

Knox County was named in honor of General Henry Knox.  He was a officer of the revolutionary army and Secretary of War in Gen. Washington administration.

Knox County was established seven years after Illinois became a state in 1818. Part of the southern edge of Knox County was formed from Fulton County which had existed two years already.

A famous debate between Stephen Douglas and Abraham Lincoln during their race for senate took place at Old Main on the campus of Knox College in Galesburg.
