Greene County was named after Nathaniel Greene. Nathaniel Greene was a major general in the American Revolution. He helped especially in the southern  area.
   Greene County was originally part of Madison County. The boundaries were re-established in 1839.
   The county seat is in  Carrollton. Carrollton is  around the center of Greene County.
   A few towns in Greene County are Carrollton, Eldred, Greenfield, Hillview, Kane, Rockbridge, Roodhouse, White Hall, Wilmington.
