My County was Established on February 8 and March 3, 1843 Origin of the name of the county was named after Fort Massac, a corruption of a French surname, Township Government Massac County has never adopted township form of government. The county has been divided into precincts. The precinct names are Benton, Brooklyn, Georges Creek, Grant, Hillerman, Jackson, Logan, Metropolis, and Washington. Massac County, was formed in 1843 from Pope and Johnson Counties and its boundaries remain unchanged to this date. The name Massac was taken from Fort Massac. Massac County is located in the Southern tip of Illinois. County Seat is Metropolis found in 1843.
