Jackson County


     Jackson County was named  after one of  the founding fathers, Andrew Jackson. Jackson was born in a backwoods settlement  in the Carolinas in 1767. Andrew Jackson became president in 1829. He was the seventh president of the United States.  Jackson was elected for two terms and ended his presidency in 1837.
      Jackson County has sixteen different townships, Bradley, Carbondale, Degognia, DeSoto, Elk, Fountain Bluff, Grand Tower, Kinkaid, Levan, Makanda, Murphysboro, Ora, Pomona, Sand Ridge, Somerset, and Vergennes.
