Tazewell County

Tazewell County was named after Lyttleton Waller Tazewell. He was a lawyer who served in the Virginia house of delegates. When Tazewell County was named between 1824-1832 he served as a U.S. senator. Later, in 1834 ,he became the 27th Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Tazewell County was first established in 1827 and at first included parts of present-day DeWitt, Livingston, Logan, Mason, McLean, and Woodford Counties. The present day land area of Tazewell wasn't  established until 1841.

The Tazewell County Courthouse is in the town of Pekin. Other towns (cities) in Tazewell County include Armington, Creve Coeur, Deer Creek, Delavan, East Peoria, Goodfield, Green Valley, Groveland, Hopedale, Mackinaw, Marzuette Heights, Minier, Morton, Tremont, and Washington. Tazewell consists of many parks some of them include Birchwood Park in Morton, Birchwood Park in Washington, Fort Creve Coeur State Park in Peoria East, Mineral Springs Park in Pekin, Candlewood Park in Washington, and Brock Park in Mackinaw.
