Thomas Savery was a English military engineer and was an inventor. He was the guy who invented the steam engine in 1698. He wanted people to stop pumping water out of coal mines the hard way. His machine had a closed vessel filled with water into which steam under pressure was introduced. Thomas Savery later worked with Thomas     Newcomen on inventing atmospheric steam engine.
