Did you know? Salmon can live in freshwater and saltwater. Salmon don’t eat when they leave the ocean. Some will die because they don’t have enough stored food to survive,

A lot get caught in a fisherman’s net when they make the trip.

 

There are 7 different types of salmon, the sockeye salmon, the Chinook salmon, Coho salmon, the pink salmon, Steelhead salmon,

and the Chum salmon.

 

The most a salmon lives is about 1-8 years. The steelhead salmon lives up to 8 years if it survives.

 

Did you know? The biggest threat to salmon is a dam. It makes their journey even harder.

It can help salmon stock survive.. If you want to save them...Try to stop dams from being built.

“A salmon’s life cycle: Spawning in streams that are larger and deeper than other salmon utilize, Chinook salmon spawn from late summer to late fall, depending on the run. Fry and smolts usually stay in freshwater from 1 to 18 months before travelling downstream to estuaries, where they remain up to 189 days. Chinook salmon spend 1 to 8 years at sea before returning to natal streams to spawn”
