Wetlands |
|
Wetlands are lowland areas, such as a swamp, that is saturated with moisture. It has a lot of different animals living in it. Wetlands also have more animals and plants than around other lakes, rivers, forests, etc. Some animals that live there are barred owls, mosquitoes, and bobcats. They are also full of frogs, snakes, and turtles. Wetlands also help preserve water quality.
In the past, wetlands were mostly used as wastelands. As, people moved in, the wetlands were one of the things that got in the way. They drained them and replaced them with homes and railroads. By 1950, about 30-40% of natural wetlands were drained. |
