4th Grade Classroom News
Welcome to another wonderful year at Genoa Elementary!!! Thank you to all the friends and family who attended our annual Open House, it was a huge success as usual. Please feel free to contact any staff member with questions about your child, we love to hear both positive and negative feedback. Thank you for all your support at home, we couldn’t do it without you!!

We started the school year discussing different strategies we use when we read. Students spent a few weeks practicing centers and guided reading is now in full swing!! In August we discussed the five elements of stories and are now focusing on summarizing and text features. Please have your child read for 30 minutes a night!!! Please record their minutes read in their agenda books on a daily basis!

We started off the year discussing place value, the students did very well with this concept. Topic 2 covered subtraction which is very difficult for some children. Please practice 3-4 digit subtraction with your child as much as possible, practice makes perfect. Topic 3 and 4 will focus on multiplication, we expect students to have mastered their facts by now!

In writing we are discussing the writing process and the seven traits of writing. Introductions and focusing on one specific topic has been our focus so far. We will begin with strong starts and the tone of writing as well as typing our thoughts on the computer.

In social studies we are learning about the Midwest region and all of its attributes. Our science classes are varied due to supplies, classes are alternating between weather and the digestive system. The students have been very engaged with both concepts!!
