As we approach the end of the year there are a few items that I would like to highlight for all of our parents and guardians. First, our end of year PBIS Carnival is contingent upon at least 80% of our students turning in their required reading minutes. Going into April, roughly 44% of our GES students were completing their required amount of reading at home and turning in that information to their teachers. The low percentage was the catalyst for establishing a reading goal for the 4thquarter. Currently we are 72% meeting our reading goal, a great improvement however still short of our school wide goal of 80%.
We will be collecting data towards the goal for two more weeks. In order to help push our students I’ve put in some extra incentives in. Should we meet the 80% goal on Monday May 15 I will spend the entire day on the GES roof. In addition, any class that has 100% of their students turn in their weekly reading minutes they will earn a trip to McDonalds for ice cream, my treat. So please make sure your child is reading at home and turning in their minutes. We have a very worthy goal to reach and our students will benefit immensely from reading.
Finally, I would like to congratulate our Lions Club Citizens of the Year, 4th grades selection was Brandon Wolcott, while 5th grade chose Bella Rieff. Both of these fine students are tremendously deserving of this award and show exemplary character every day.
